James Monroe Earns His Eighth 'Wally' As NHRA Top Dragster On Mickey Thompson Tires

04/27/09

Stow, OH - Team M/T™ racer James Monroe raced to victory earning his eighth NHRA 'Wally' at the O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis April 24-26. Monroe, a two-time NHRA Divisional Champion, qualified in 11th position with a 6.806 elapsed time at over 196 miles per hour. Monroe persisted through five rounds of competition in the Sunday heat with consistent sixty-foot times at .990 and 1/8th-mile times of 4.33 at nearly 160 miles per hour. This earned him the win and the early season series points lead.

“This is a great way to start the season with a brand new car, brand new engine, brand new everything”, said James Monroe of the days events. “The one constant I could count on was my Mickey Thompson tires. They always give me consistent reaction times and sixty-foot times which is the key to winning these extreme bracket races in the higher horsepower format.”

Monroe runs the multi-purpose Mickey Thompson ET Drag tires #3185, and the new 16x16 Pro 5 ET Drag dual bead lock wheels on his Spitzer dragster that features a 1200+ horsepower engine from Steve Schmidt Competition Engines. Look for more great things from Monroe in 2009 as he sets his sight on another championship season.
