Leah Pruett-Leduc Makes Nostalgia Funny Car History At The 33rd Annual Nitro Nite Of Fire At Sacramento Raceway On Mickey Thompson Tires
06/29/09
Stow, OH - Leah Pruett-LeDuc wowed Sacramento Raceway crowds at the 33rd annual Nitro Nite of Fire June 26-27, 2009 by becoming the first nostalgia funny car racer to break the 250-mile per hour mark. The record-breaking run took place during round one of eliminations where she posted a 6.07-second elapsed time at 250.37 miles per hour in her Heart Breaker 1969 Mach 1 Mustang on Mickey Thompson ET Drag Tires size 34.5/17.0-16 (#3186).
The raw excitement of the new speed record ripped through the pit as the Pruett-LeDuc team prepared for the second round of eliminations where she was pitted against Dennis LaCharite in his ''69 GTO. The reaction times of both racers were almost identical, but it was Pruett-LeDuc who crossed the finish line first. Although she was eventually defeated by Garrett Bateman in the final round, her speed record stands as one of the most exciting parts of the day.
