Produced by Duck X Productions, home of “The Baddest Small-Tire Races in the World,” No Mercy 9 is set for Sept. 26-30 at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Adel, Georgia.

Leading the small-tire category with its ET Street Radial Pro line, Mickey Thompson has supported small-tire events since 2009.

“If you love drag racing, you’ll love No Mercy 9,” said Tom Kundrik, Motorsports Manager, Mickey Thompson. “These racers lay it all on the line every run, and really put our ET Street Radial Pro line to the test.”

The Duck X races welcome an average of 400 competitors over 10 racing classes, and grandstands packed with spectators.

Mickey Thompson's ET Street Radial Pro is a purpose-built race tire for classes requiring P275/60R15 or P315/60R15 tires constructed from size-specific materials. The race-only radial features next-generation construction designed to take more power for better launches, and a reduced tread pattern for maximum traction.

Top Thrills in Top Fuel Harley Finale as Tii Tharpe Takes Title news/top-thrills-in-top-fuel-harley-finale-as-tii-tharpe-takes-title 2018-09-05 Tii Tharpe is the champion of the NHRA Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels Top Fuel Harley Drag Racing Series after clinching the win over the Labor Day weekend at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis — a new event for the Harley series this year. Tharpe defeated Doug Vancil in dramatic fashion after the two entered the finale separated by less than a round's worth of points.

Tharpe and Vancil competed head-to-head throughout the season, with Tharpe going into the weekend's showdown with a slight edge. The duo recorded identical 0.43 reaction times to kick off the final round before Tharpe surged ahead on the strength of a 6.44 pass on his Spevko, recording his fifth win of the season.

“Congratulations to Tii and his team on earning the Mickey Thompson Tires Top Fuel Harley title,” said Ken Warner, Vice President of Marketing for Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels. “It doesn't get any more exciting than the kind of finish Tii and our other elite competitors treated fans to, and we're looking forward to building on that excitement next year.”

Additionally, Stock Eliminator winner TC Morris, S.A.M Tech Factory Stock Showdown champion Leah Pritchett and Dodge Hemi Challenge winner James Daniels all relied on Mickey Thompson tires to top the podium over the weekend in Indianapolis.

Mickey Thompson increased its presence in the Top Fuel Harley class this season and was featured at 10 events on the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series calendar—up from eight races last year. It awarded bonuses to the top three finishers, where riders competed for a share of $97,000 in total awards between year-end prize money and the eight races.

The Pedigree of Speed news/same-car-new-record 2018-08-13 STOW, OHIO – Aug. 20, 2018 – After an incredible two-way average run of 448.757 mph during Speedweek at the Bonnevile Salt Flats, Danny Thompson, 69, shattered the piston-powered, wheel driven land speed record and accomplished a goal started by his father Mickey more than 50 years ago.

“We did it!” Thompson wrote on the team’s website. “On Sunday morning, eight years of hard work culminated in a 450.909-mph return run. Averaged with yesterday's speed of 446.605 mph, we achieved a new two-way AA/FS record of 448.757 mph, enough to make us the world's fastest piston-powered car.”

Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels supported Danny’s journey to the record books since he first decided to resurrect the Challenger II in 2010 after sitting idle for more than 40 years in in his Colorado garage.

“Danny called me up and told me about his plan to restore the Challenger II and get it ready to try for a new record at the Bonneville Salt Flats,” recalled Ken Warner, Vice President of Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels. “He wanted to bring it back to life and finish what his dad, Mickey, started five decades ago.”

In 1968, Mickey took the Challenger II to Bonneville in an attempt to break the piston-powerered, wheel-driven record. However, due to heavy rain on the salt flats, Mickey never got the chance to test the Challenger II and go for the record.

Mickey’s first land speed racing vehicle, the Challenger I, accomplished a 406.7 mile per hour run at Bonneville 10 years prior in 1958. That historic run landed Mickey in the record books as the “first man to reach 400 miles per hour.” But the Challenger I was not able to complete the second run needed for an official Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) record due to mechanical issues.

Mickey never got the chance to take the Challenger II back to Bonneville and try for the record again. But Danny was determined to give the the Challenger II another shot on the salt flats.

First, he needed to get the Challenger II from his Colorado garage to the Huntington Beach, California speed shop set up to restore the 1968 land speed racer. Warner sent the Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels motorsports trailer to Colorado and transported the Challenger II to southern California so work could begin.

Warner and Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels continued to support Danny and his team as they brought the car up to specs over the next two years. After a promising test run at Bonneville in 2014, two years of heavy rain on the flats forced the Challenger II to stay in the garage, waiting for the right conditions to attempt to break the record.

“In 2017, when there was a good year on the salt, Danny finally got the chance to run the Challenger II during SCTA’s Speedweek,” said Warner. “That’s when Danny set the two-way world record with a 406.8 mph average speed.”

The record was one-tenth of a second faster than his father’s historic run in 1968.

But Danny wasn’t done yet. A couple months after Speedweek 2017, Danny went back to Bonneville to attempt the FIA world record. But after crashing the Challenger II, Danny, who wasn’t injured, announced his Land Speed Racing career was done. He had decided to retire.

Until excellent conditions at the Bonneville Salt Flats this year were too hard for Danny to resist.

Danny’s record setting 448.757 mph two-way average run at Speedweek 2018 was the culmination of eight years of hard work, dedication and the support of manufacturers like Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels.

“Congratulations to Danny and his team on their incredible, record-setting weekend at Bonneville,” said Warner. “For the land speed record to be set in the same car Mickey built and on the same tires he and McMannis developed decades ago is an amazing end to this family’s quest to be the fastest racers on earth. We are proud to be the official tire of the Southern California Timing Association and Speedweek.”

In addition to the Challenger II, many of the fastest LSR cars in the world rely on Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels’ LSR tires. The company currently manufactures three LSR tires, including the 590-mph rated tires Danny drove in to the record books. Previous LSR record-holder George Poteet and his “Speed Demon,” as well as Team Vesco’s “Turbinator” both also utilize Mickey Thompson LSR tires.

Matt Smith Wins Mickey Thompson Pro Bike Battle in Sonoma news/matt-smith-wins-mickey-thompson-pro-bike-battle-in-sonoma 2018-07-30 Smith got the jump off the line and beat 2015 champion Eddie Krawiec, 6.793 to 6.764. Riding his Victory Gunner-bodied V-twin, the win was Smiths’ first in the specialty event, which has been held at the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals since 2014.

“To pull this off against a major factory team is amazing,” Smith told “I’m happy for my team and for all the people who support us. I’m out here racing without a sponsor, so this means everything to me. We’re going to put this $25,000 to good use. It will help us a lot. We have a great bike. We have a bike that can win this championship and hopefully I get the funding I need to finish it off.”

The first round of the Mickey Thompson Pro Bike Battle, a special race-within-a-race that features the eight top riders based on points earned throughout the season at NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle national events, was filled with upsets. Three of the four lower-seeded riders advanced from the first round, and Smith narrowly defeated last year’s Pro Bike Battle winner LE Tonglet in the semifinals.

“Congratulations to Matt Smith on his impressive victory, and to all the riders for putting on an exciting show at this year’s Mickey Thompson Pro Bike Battle,” said Ken Warner, Vice President of Marketing for Mickey Thompson.

Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels Named Official Tire of SCTA/BNI news/mickey-thompson-tires-wheels-named-official-tire-of-scta-bni 2018-05-11 Recognizing the importance of land speed racing in the historical landscape of American motorsports, Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels has signed on as official tire of Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) and Bonneville Nationals Inc. (BNI).

The SCTA and sister organization BNI hold dry lake racing events at El Mirage Dry Lake in Southern California, as well as the annual Bonneville Speed Week and World Finals at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

“Mickey Thompson is thrilled to be a part of the excitement of dry lake bed racing as the official tire of SCTA/BNI,” said Tommy Kundrik, Motorsports Manager, Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels. “These amazing racers and machines put our products to the ultimate test, and we’re honored to play a role in supporting this important link to racing’s past.”

SCTA/BNI states its mission is to promote land speed racing’s cultural and historical significance and protect the future of racing through educational programs, support of legislative actions and live events.

“Hot rodding is a uniquely American activity with a rich history that reflects America’s growth in the 20th century,” said Ron Main of SCTA/BNI. “SCTA represents America’s affection for speed and style in all its forms—from the Ford flathead V-8s that got things moving in the 1930s, to the Top Fuel dragsters and land speed streamliners of today.”

As the official tire of SCTA/BNI, Mickey Thompson will have a prominent presence at Bonneville Speed Week in August, as well as in the pages of SCTA Racing News, a magazine first published in 1937.

The company has a rich history in the sport of land speed racing. Founder Mickey Thompson broke the 400-mph barrier at Bonneville in 1960, and his son Danny set a record for a piston-powered vehicle with an average of 406 mph on the salt in 2016.
