Racers rely on Mickey Thompson tires at King of the Hammers

02/10/2021

Mickey Thompson tires were put to the test at King of the Hammers, and proved to meet the challenge. Billed as “the toughest one-day off-road race on the planet,” only 37 of 84 cars finished the race on time this year.

One of the 34 racers to cross the finish line was Tad Dowker, who finished in 21st place on Baja Boss X tires.

“We had seven flats during last year’s King of the Hammers week, including five during the race,” Dowker said. “The grip and durability of the new 4 ply Baja Boss X allowed us to stick many optional lines in the rocks and smash through the boulder-infested goat trails with confidence.”

Jordan Pellegrino of GenRight Off Road finished in 23rd place on 40X13.50R17LT Baja Boss X tires, without any flat tires throughout the race.

Jeremy Jones, who raced on Mickey Thompson’s Baja Boss M/T tires, noted, “We killed four tires in the desert last year. We did not kill a single one this year.”

“The Baja Boss X is an extreme competition tire designed to tackle the toughest terrains,” Ken Warner, Vice President of Marketing at Mickey Thompson said. “Tested at King of the Hammers and other off-road race and rock crawl events, this tire provides incredible grip and endurance to conquer all obstacles.”

The Baja Boss X features extra large four-pitch Sidebiters® for unparalleled off-road traction. The Powerply™ XD provides better puncture resistance, quicker steering response and greater stability.
