Arana, Jr. first to 200 mph on NHRA drag bike

Record-breaking run made on Mickey Thompson ET Drag tires

03/20/2018

Hector Arana, Jr. made history Friday when he reached 200.23 mph during his second qualifying run at the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., making him the first Pro Stock Motorcycle rider to top 200 mph. He later improved to a 201.01 mph run on Saturday, resetting the world record.

Arana, who races on Mickey Thompson ET Drag motorcycle tires, took home $10,000 from Denso Spark Plugs. The company announced the prize money prior to the race on Friday as the Pro Stock Motorcycles prepared to make their 2018 NHRA season debut at the Gatornationals.

Arana is no stranger to holding records. The experienced competitor set the previous record of 199.88 mph in 2015. The 200-mph barrier was expected to be broken in 2018.

"Congratulations to Hector and his team on their history-making run in Gainesville," said Ken Warner, Vice President of Marketing for Mickey Thompson. "There was only one last barrier to be broken, and Hector put the 200 mph digits on the board."

Mickey Thompson's ET Drag motorcycle tires are engineered for consistent performance and compounded for maximum traction, making them a top choice for Pro Stock Motorcycle racers.
